Introduction
Beijing Normal University (BNU), founded in 1902, is one of the universities that receive key supports from the state in Beijing. In recent years, with the support of the "211 projects"and "985 projects" BNU has entered a new stage of development and has made remarkable progress in the areas of subject development, talents training, faculty construction, and scientific research and so on. This has been the foundation for BNU to become a comprehensive university with special characteristics and world-renowned research.

Now, BNU has 1681 full time faculty members and more than 20000 full-time students, including over 8600 undergraduate students, 9900 graduate students and around 2000 long-term international students. It includes 1 Faculty, 22 Colleges and Schools, 2 Departments and 23 Institutes.

BNU ranks among the top universities in China. Signing an agreement with Ministry of Education and Beijing Municipal Government, BNU became the 10th university on the list to get special support from the Chinese Government, aiming to be a world prestigious university. Now, it has 100 doctoral degree programs, 162 master degree programs, 55 bachelor degree programs and 18 post-doctoral programs. Beijing Normal University had 16 national key disciplines, including 5 general disciplines and 11 specialized disciplines Discipline of Education. Psychology and Chinese Language and Literature ranks top one in China. And 15 disciplines rank top 10 in China.

BNU has cooperative agreements with 300 institutions from over 30 countries. There are over 20 student exchange partners in Asia, Europe and North America. There are joint establishment of Confucius Institutes with five universities and colleges: the University of Manchester of UK, San Francisco State University in US, the University of Oklahoma in USA, University de Sherbrooke & Dawson College of Canada.

BNU has started to recruit international students since 1965; and it has accumulated abundant experience in Chinese language program and other major-related subjects for foreigners. Now, there are around 2000 students from 73 countries studying in BNU, 67% of which are for degree study. BNU set up English-taught International Master programs in four majors: social policy, comparative education, world economy and environmental science and one English-taught credit-course program for non-degree study students. BNU sincerely wishes to communicate with international students from all over the world, and looks forward to enhancing the friendship with other countries through academic cooperation.

Accommodation fees: 120 CNY/person/day(standard double room)
BNU can allocate accommodation for short-term Chinese language students. The cost of this accommodation is 120 CNY/person/day (standard double room). Students who wish to stay in BNU's international student dorms should complete the accommodation booking form and send it to the International Students Office with the application materials.

Deposits and dorm fees for the first half-year must be paid within the first two weeks after you move in.
You are free to change accommodations among different dormitories and apartments within the first two weeks after the prescribed registration time, but if you change the room or check out after the two weeks you should pay the two-week accommodation fee as compensation.
Notice for Those Living off BNU Campus:
If you live off BNU campus, you must present to International Students Office your legal residence certificate.
If you live in a hotel, apartment or an international student building at other school, you must obtain a certification stamped by the building's front office.
If you rent a Chinese house, you should get a completed REGISTRATION FORM OF TEMPORARY RESIDENCE with the official seal from the local police station. To get this form, you must register at the local police station within 24 hours after moving in. Bring your passport and your landlord, who must present a household registration booklet. Those without a valid certificate will be considered illegally residing in China and will receive a warning or fine.
Food
The canteen in Lanhui International Students' Apartment has seating for 200 people. The average cost per day is about CNY 20 yuan. Other canteens and restaurants on campus are also open to international students, and within walking distance of campus there are a variety of Chinese, Japanese, Korean and Western fast-food restaurants.

2. Insurance Fee
As requested by Ministry of Education in China, International students staying in China must possess an insurance of at least CNY400,000 worth (or other currencies equal to this amount ) individual maximum amount of compensation for overseas medica, , , , l care and accidental injury with a valid period longer than the duration of study. Students who do not have such insurance or not up to the above req, uired amount cannot be enrolled.
You may purchase international student insurance from China Ping抋n Insurance Co. when registering:
Insurance Fee: CNY 300 premium for a semester (6 months), CNY600 premium for one academic year (12 months). Only CNY cash is acceptable. If you purchase insurance for more than 2 years at one time, the premium for the former two years remains CNY600 per year, and the premium from the third year is CNY500 yuan per year.
