About Peking University (PKU)
Founded in 1898, Peking University (PKU) is the first national university in Chinese modern history. Peking University now consists of five faculties: Humanities, Social Sciences, Sciences, Medicine, and Information and Engineering. The University has 47 colleges and departments, and offers 105 undergraduate programs, 291 graduate programs, and 249 doctoral programs. While still laying stress on basic sciences, the university has paid special attention to the development of applied sciences. In October 2010, there were 14,810 undergraduates, 12,082 postgraduates and 6,838 doctoral candidates. There were also on campus approximately 2,326 long-term international students from 80 countries. Among them, there were 1,836 Degree-Seeking students.
Peking University is also famous for outstanding research facilities and high qualifying teachers and researchers with extensive research interests and profound knowledge. Today the University has 5,866 full-time faculties, of whom 1,701are professors and 2,037 are associate professors, 60 academicians of the Chinese Academy of Science, and 8 academicians of the Chinese Academy of Engineering. At present, Peking University has 11 national key laboratories, 46 state key laboratories, 2 national engineering research centers and 8 affiliated hospitals and health centers.
The Peking University library is the largest university library in Asia, with a collection of 7.7 million books, and Chinese and foreign journals and newspapers. The library also serves as a comprehensive modern information center.
Peking University places great importance on academic exchange and cooperation with foreign universities, research institutes and multinational enterprises. She has signed agreements with more than 200 universities in 50 countries and regions. |

Accommodation
For the international students who will study in Peking University,there are two options for your accomodation as following :
On-Campus
A. Student rooms in Posts and Telecommunications Hotel: with air conditioner, color TV, telephone, bathroom, and room-cleaning service, about 5 minutes away from Peking University campus by foot. 58 CNY per day per bed for two- or three-room apartment with two beds in each room. 95 CNY per day for single room. B. Student rooms in Zhongguanyuan Global Village PKU: with color TV, telephone, Internet access, air conditioner and bathroom. Self-funded Students are required to find their own living accommodation. Please note that students who live off campus must register to the local police station.
C. Student rooms in Shaoyuan Building No. 9 (on-campus): with color TV, telephone, Internet access, air conditioner and bathroom; two persons share one room. D. King-size rooms in Shaoyuan Building (on-campus):with color TV, telephone, refrigerator, Internet access, bathroom, and air conditioner; two persons share one room. Notes: Due to the limited accommodation on campus, the Shaoyuan International Students Residences can only provide the house for scholarship students. Off-Campus (300-600 CNY/day)

Non-degree Program
1. Certificate of HSK Certificate of HSK (Chinese Proficiency Test),No need for English medium programs 2. Photocopy of valid passport With name, passport number & expiration date, and photo included 3. Passport photo A recent passport-sized photo of the applicant 4. High school academic transcript 5. High school graduate certificate Graduation certificate in languages other than Chinese or English should be translated into Chinese or English and be certified by notarization. 6. Letter of recommendation From professor or associate professor or equivalents 7. Letter from financial guarantor indicating his or her name, profession, telephone number, and contact address 8. Letter from sponsor in China indicating his or her name, working unit, telephone number, and permanent address
Bachelor's Degree Programs
1. Photocopy of valid passport With name, passport number & expiration date, and photo included (passport type must be ordinary) 2. Passport photo A recent passport-sized photo of the applicant 3. High school academic transcript Official transcripts of your academic achievement up to the present, including courses taken and standard achieved (original documents or certified copies in Chinese or English) 4. High school graduate certificate Students expecting to graduate should provide an official letter stating expected graduation date, and submit the graduation diploma if admitted, which should be original documents or certified copies in Chinese or English 5. Additional materials Additional materials may be required
Master's Degree Programs
1. Certificate of HSK HSK 6 for basic medicine, biology, public health, preventive medicine, pharmacy etc., HSK 8 for clinical, stomatology and public management. 2. Personal Statement with 800 words Personal Statement with the applicant's signature, written in Chinese or in English.
Doctoral Degree Programs
1. Photocopy of valid passport With name, passport number & expiration date, and photo included 2. Passport photo A recent passport-sized photo of the applicant 3. Postgraduate school transcript 4. English proficiency test certificate For example, IELTS or TOEFL, only for applicant whose native language is not English. 5. Letter of recommendation The referees should be professors or persons with relevant academic title. At least one of them should have knowledge of your recent academic work. The format of the recommendation letter must be original documents either in Chinese or English. You can download a template or sample from here. 6. Other materials Other materials may be required by departments 7. Copy of article or papers published 8. A 1500-word personal resume Written in Chinese or in English 9. Master's degree diploma Graduation certificate in languages other than Chinese or English should be translated into Chinese or English and be certified by notarization.
Entry requirement
Bachelor's Degree Programs
Applicants must be non-Chinese citizens with a valid passport, above the age of 18 and under the age of 30, have attained a senior high school diploma.
Master's Degree Programs
Applicants must be non-Chinese citizens with a valid passport, under the age of 40, have attained a Bachelor degree or above, with HSK level 8.
Doctoral Degree Programs
English Language All students must have taken the Graduate Record Exam (GRE). Students who do not speak English as a first language must have taken the (TOEFL) unless they have received a bachelor degree from an English speaking university. Ecademic Prerequisites Bachelor degree (B.A. or B.S.) in: Engineering, Math, Physical Science (Chemistry, Physics and other related disciplines), Life Science (with precondition that applicants make up required math and physics courses) or other disciplines with special approval from recruiting committee. Have taken Calculus up to differential equations (2 years) and Calculus based physics (1 year). |
